'Racist dog whistle detected': MTG roasted for calling Kamala Harris a 'DEI hire'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to X on Tuesday to proclaim that Vice President Kamala Harris, now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is a "DEI hire" — "DEI" being short for diversity, equity, and inclusion, a common focus of governmental and corporate policies that has become both a bogeyman on the right and, increasingly, a coded stand-in for a racial slur.

"Joe Biden admits Kamala Harris is a DEI hire. 'Diversity, Equality & Inclusion are the core strengths of America…I'm proud to have the most diverse administration in history…it starts at the top with the Vice President,'" wrote Greene, a far-right lawmaker who has repeatedly come under controversy for virulent anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and her former embrace of QAnon conspiracy theories.

Greene, whose post comes amid reporting that House GOP leadership is privately begging members not to make racially-charged remarks against Harris, was promptly buried in furious responses to her remarks.

"Elected as DA of San Francisco. Elected as Attorney General of California. Elected as a United States Senator. First woman to be Vice President," wrote the account @Mr_Lewis41. "Nice try, Marge. Kamala is going to smash the nation’s highest, hardest glass ceiling and I am with her on this journey!"

"Racist dog whistle detected," wrote the account @Alan_Leturno.

"Kamala Harris is one of the most qualified Vice Presidents in history. She’s been an elected official for longer than Trump and JD Vance combined," wrote the account @franklinisbored.

" He’s been trying to get the black vote and you’re up here calling THE VP a DEI hire," wrote the account @wrens_dens. "Then again…maybe Kamala can highlight posts like this in her campaign to pull black people away from Trump. Not sure what to do here now…"

"Do you think this comment is going to help Trump win the white suburban women's vote or the Black vote?" wrote the account @RobertLutherFL.
