The reason for the early kick off is because the two sports start with a group stage – and beginning two days before the curtain raiser -allows players enough time to rest between games.

All eyes will be on Paris today for the highly anticipated start of the Games, but why do Team GB not have a men’s rugby sevens team?

Why do Team GB not have a men’s rugby sevens team at the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Team GB do not have a men’s rugby sevens team competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This is because Great Britain failed to qualify after losing 14-5 to South Africa in the repechage final in Monaco.

Team GB does have a women’s rugby sevens competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

They will begin their Games against Ireland in Pool B at 2.30pm on Sunday, July 28.

Australia and South Africa are the other countries that make up the rest of Pool B.
