MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals and rumours from Old Trafford

Neville, 49, was discussing what he would put in his ‘Room 101’ – a concept borrowed from the TV show that sees celebs discuss what they would get rid of from life if they could.

And the ex-England right-back bizarrely singled out barbecues as one of his pet hates.

Talking to fellow football stars Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Jill Scott on Stick to Football: The Overlap Special, brought to you by Sky Bet, he explained why he doesn’t take kindly to sitting down with a burger in the sun.

Neville said: “Barbecues… they’re overrated.

“Do you know something? You say ‘oh let’s have a barbecue’, but what happens is…

“The sequencing of what happens is there will be someone up there cooking, they bring the food over and you’re eating it while they’re still cooking.

“Everything is not ready at the right time. Then you have salad come over… it’s an unsociable experience for eating.”

Keane agreed with his former team-mate that the family get-togethers should be consigned to Room 101, while Scott and Wright were adamant that barbecues have got a place in their lives.

But Neville didn’t stop his ranting there as he took aim at shoehorns next.

The 85-time England international slammed: “If you need a shoehorn for a pair of shoes… honestly I can’t buy them.

“Why would you buy a pair of shoes where you need a shoehorn?”

Nev passionately added: “If you can’t get a shoe on first time and you need a shoehorn to get the shoe on – I’m sorry, something’s not right.”

He also put up arguments to bin off goalkeeping coaches, WhatsApp groups and trains from Manchester to London.

The Red Devils legend was obviously taking lighthearted digs at the inoffensive side of day-to-day life, giving him a chance to vent about something else other than the state of affairs at Old Trafford.

Neville had plenty to say about his former club last term when they finished eighth in the Premier League, but finished the season as FA Cup winners.

The retired right-back will be hoping the upcoming season will be a much more positive campaign as the club begin their first full term under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The billionaire Brit is already ensuring the club are moving in the right direction under his reign, luring two big money signings to Manchester.

United announced last week the arrival of 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro, while Holland striker Joshua Zirkzee swapped Bologna for Man Utd earlier this month.
