Paris Olympics 2024: Know Your Athlete Saikhom Mirabai Chanu

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will look to better her Tokyo 2020 silver when she takes the mat in Paris.

New Delhi: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, the weightlifter from Nongpok Kakching near Imphal, will be one of the favourites to turn the colour of her Olympic medal from silver to gold in the 49kg category. Only one weightlifter in the world has currently lifted greater weight than Mirabai in the Paris Olympics 2024 qualification cycle.

Mirabai won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a silver at the 2022 World Championships but disappointingly failed to finish in the 2022 Asian Games. If Mirabai can stay fit in Paris then there is no reason why she won’t finish on the top spot, three years after Tokyo Olympics.
