GOP operative flops in attempt to defend J.D. Vance remarks about 'childless cat ladies'
A Republican operative barely attempted to defend J.D. Vance's remarks about "childless cat ladies" during an appearance on CNN.
The GOP vice presidential nominee had previously questioned whether vice president Kamala Harris, now the likely Democratic presidential nominee, had a legitimate stake in the nation because she didn't have children, and CNN host Kasie Hunt questioned whether remarks like that would appeal to many voters.
"Let's just remind everyone who else is of a very powerful, childless cat lady, quote, unquote, because the internet really likes Taylor Swift in this particular moment," said host Kasie Hunt. "There she is with her cat you know, hasn't endorsed a presidential candidate yet. I'm the only woman at this table, [but] this was clearly a mistake."

Hunt invited Jennings to defend Donald Trump's running mate, and the GOP operative unenthusiastically took up the challenge.
"I mean, I think that there's, this is not part of the campaign's messaging, No. 1," Jennings said. "No. 2, if I may pivot, I think the old videos, if you if you want to play the game of resurfacing old videos of people who are now thrust onto tickets, I suspect you're going to see plenty of Kamala Harris videos that are going to be far more politically damaging than going after J.D. Vance today, that's my take."
Rep. Pat Ryan (D-NY) said the video, which came from an interview with then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson in 2021, before Vance was elected to the U.S. Senate, was relevant because it showed how little Trump and his campaign cared about a huge segment of the electorate.
"What it speaks to, though, is the values and the disregard for a huge number of people that he brings at a moment when, in my district and across the country, people feel like politicians are not caring about them, are not listening," Ryan said. "I can also say, as the husband of a cat lady with children, that people are rightly – it just hits as true because he's so vile and so [is] much of his rhetoric, and I think it will be and should be soundly rejected."
