Democrats in red states get flood of cash in effort to squeeze GOP after Harris move

The ascension of Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president in November has led to a windfall for Democrats in red states who have been flooded with donations.

According to a report from the Daily Beast's Mini Racker, Democrats in states where Republicans have long dominated are seeing a massive uptick in cash that will force Republicans to sink money into districts where they usually coast to victory.

As the report notes, within hours of Harris becoming the new face of the Democratic Party, state officials experienced the two best online fundraising days ever.

According to the Beast, "The [Democratic Legislative Campaign] committee would not specify exactly how much it raked in, but said its record-breaking fundraising on July 21 and 22 coincided with the Harris operation’s haul. The campaign arms of the Democratic Party devoted to House and Senate races also announced their best online fundraising days over the same 48-hour span."

According to DLCC Interim Communications Director Sam Paisley, that money will be put to good use because Trump is not the only Republican who will be on the ballot.

“Even if Trump is defeated at the top of the ticket, we know that Republicans are galvanizing to push Project 2025 through the states, so the threat of that doesn’t disappear if Trump is defeated,” she said.
