NEW YORK (PIX11) – Mosquitoes with West Nile virus were detected in all five boroughs in New York City, according to health officials.

On Long Island, 16 more samples tested positive for the virus in Suffolk County, bringing the total there to 32 so far this season.

There are no positive cases of West Nile in humans yet, according to health officials.

Most infected people experience mild to no symptoms, while others could suffer from high fever, headaches, and neck stiffness. In extreme cases, people can experience vision loss or paralysis.

To protect yourself, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using mosquito repellent, wearing shoes, socks, and long clothing, and making sure all windows and doors have screens.
