Nearly 170 teens, young adults employed through Acadiana Workforce solutions summer program

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Nearly 170 teens and young adults were able to develop skills and gain work experience this summer through Acadiana Workforce Solutions' Summer Work Experience program, the workforce organization said.

According to a news release, Acadiana Workforce Solutions, or AWS, said its summer program included two week-long boot camps and the opportunity for students aged 16-24 to gain work experience from local businesses.

Businesses and employers that participated in this year's program include:

  • Ochsner's health
  • Opelousas General Hospital
  • St. Landry Parish Government
  • Community Action Agency
  • Acadiana Open Community Media
  • St. Landry Parish School Board
  • Delkin Motor Sports
  • Brilliant Minds Academy
  • Nehemiah Project
  • Assist Agency
  • We Push

The first boot camp was held at various South Louisiana Community College locations. The second boot camp was held at Louisiana State University at Eunice.

In the news release, AWS director Brenda Foulcard offered thanks to everyone who helped make this summer's program a success.

"Here's to the endless possibilities that lie ahead for every one of us. Until we meet again, keep dreaming, keep growing, and keep shining bright," Foulcard said.
