Anthea’s condition sees her bone density at less than a healthy amount.

63-year-old Anthea discovered that she had the painful condition during routine health screening.

In a new interview, the TV star penned: “My condition was diagnosed during routine health screening.

“Until then I had no idea I had osteopenia, or that it could become much more serious.”

She went on to add that she was told to just keep her “fingers crossed” that her condition became no worse.

Anthea continued: “I’m not a smoker or a drinker and I’ve always had a healthy diet.

“After I was diagnosed I went to my GP and asked if anything could be done, and he said no, and just to keep my fingers crossed that it didn’t get any worse.”

In a positive health update for the star, Anthea admitted that she had begun to see a few improvements in her own condition as well as issuing tips for other sufferers to help deal with the condition.

Anthea said: “My most recent T-score and blood tests show that my condition is improving, but there are others, particularly women, who remain in the dark about this condition.”

“There are also lifestyle changes everyone can help to lessen their risk.

“Like everything good health pays dividends and eating healthily isn’t just about calories, it’s about eating the right foods – avoiding ultra-processed foods, adopting a Mediterranean diet, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, calcium-rich food, and proteins.”

The popular star rose to fame on both Top of the Pops and Blue Peter which she hosted in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.

In recent years, the star has increasingly focused on reality TV shows and has appeared across a slew of programmes.

In 2013, Anthea had a stint on the ice rink for Dancing on Ice before signing up to controversial Channel 4 show The Jump the following year.

As well as that she took part in Channel 5‘s Celebs in Solitary as well as beastly Channel 4 show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Anthea’s last major role saw her attempt to recreate the moves of hit film Dirty Dancing on the E4 show The Real Dirty Dancing.

What is Osteopenia

Osteopenia is a condition in which a person has a low level of bone tissue within their bones.

This can increase risk factors such as that of breaking a bone.

It is connected to Osteoporosis and is often diagnosed first as the bone density does not have to be as low.

Many refer to the condition as the state before Osteoporosis however it does not always lead to or indicate you will suffer from the disease.

Some bone-strengthening treatments may be offered dependant on how weak your bones are.
