Emmerdale icon Claire King demands major change to soap and teases Kim Tate’s shock new storyline

EMMERDALE star Claire King wants more Tates and fewer Dingles in the village.

The actress – who plays soap superbitch Kim Tate in the ITV soap – has called on bosses to increase the numbers of Tates in the show to balance out the seemingly endless hoardes of Dingles populating the village.

Nearly half of all of Emmerdale’s characters are Dingles or Dingle adjacent – something that has been criticised by fans.

Now, Claire has spoken out after being asked about the Tate dynasty.

She told The Sun: “She still has Thomas, Gabby’s son, which is her real grandchild but that’s about all left really so there isn’t much of a Tate dynasty left at all!”

And asked about the potential for more Tates to arrive – she’s all for it.

“It’d be an interesting spin,” she said. “Yeah, I don’t know who they would get out of the woodwork but no doubt there’s some out there.

“There seem to be many Dingles that keep turning up!”

The soap has just lost one of its only other Tates with the exit of Nicky Miligan – the son of Caleb, Frank Tate’s son.

And apart from Thomas, son of Kim’s son Jamie, and Noah Dingle, son of Chris Tate, there aren’t many left apart from Kim herself.

Millionaire schemer Kim is currently fending off an attack on her by Caleb’s wife Ruby Fox-Miligan.

Ruby tracked down Kim’s stepdaughter’s long-lost mother and paid her to seduce Kim’s husband Will Taylor and split their marriage up.

Viewers watched as Rose tried to spike Will’s drink but got mixed up and ended up spiking her own daughter Dawn – who went on to have a car accident.

Rose managed to convince the family Kim was at fault – but it has set Kim up to take devastating revenge on both Rose and Kim.

And Claire has teased that she’s going to enjoy her vengeance – not that she thinks Ruby is particularly troubling.

“I think Ruby would like to think she’s met her match,” laughed Claire.

“No, I don’t think she’s on a par with Kim Kim could be a little bit more dangerous than Ruby but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens.”

As for whether Kim could go back to embracing darkness and dealing with Ruby permanently, Claire said: “I think she is more than capable.

“But whether she’s kind of would go down that line now I’m not sure it depends how badly things go.

“But obviously that is an ultimate betrayal for her. And if she hasn’t betrayed Will then obviously I think Rose is in serious doo doo.”
