PlayStation’s upcoming exclusive game seems like it will flop

PLAYSTATION kicked off the latest State of Play with its upcoming console exclusive.

Concord is an upcoming squad-based shooter that will launch in August for both PlayStation 5 and Steam.

However, the reports from a recent beta test have shown that players are hesitant to get involved with the game.

The Concord beta test was originally only going to be available to those who pre-ordered the game which retails for £34.99/$39.99.

But shortly before the beta tests were scheduled to start, the entry requirements were changed.

The first beta test remained a closed beta, exclusive to those who pre-ordered the game.

However, the second weekend was then opened, so that anyone could join on PS5 or Steam.

Theoretically, this should boost the number of people who join the beta significantly as many more players have access.

However, even during the open beta weekend, player numbers were unexpectedly low.

According to SteamDB, on its open beta weekend Concord peaked at 2.3k concurrent players, which is tiny compared to the recent closed beta for Marvel’s Rivals, which has hit highs of over 52k.

June and July have seen a high number of shooters being released including a number of free-to-play games such as The First Descendant and Once Human.

Many players are waiting for big-name games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to launch, and others are happy playing old favourites like Fortnite.

By the end of the Concord beta test, numbers were hovering around the 1k concurrent players mark.

It should be noted that the majority of Concord players will likely be on PlayStation, and there are no figures available for this platform.

However, low player numbers are often a death knell for live-service games, as companies tend to shut down servers if a game is deemed unsuccessful.
