One of the top medal contenders for India in Paris Olympics, Vinesh Phogat will be surely hoping to finish on the podium after 2016 heartbreak.

New Delhi: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been in the news for her actions both ‘on and off’ the mat. She was one of the leading sportspersons in the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Vinesh heart-breakingly missed out on a medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics after a shocking injury on the mat.

Her battle against the former WFI president meant that she had no option but to qualify in a lower weight category which has the likes of 4-time world champion and defending Olympic champion Yui Susaki. Vinesh bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a gold medal on expected lines in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
