Trump posts letter from Abbas ahead of Netanyahu meeting

Former President Trump on Tuesday posted a letter from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Truth Social ahead of a meeting he will have later this week with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“It is with grave concern that I have received news and later on watched footage of your attempted assassination,” the letter from Abbas to Trump reads. “Acts of violence must not have a place in a world of law and order.”

“Respect for the other with tolerance and valuing of human life is what must prevail,” Abbas continued. “Despicable acts of attempted or successful assassinations are acts of weakness with failed understanding of peaceful measures to resolve conflicts.”

In response, Trump thanked Abbas in writing on the letter and said “everything will be good.”

“Looking forward to seeing Bibi Netanyahu on Friday, and even more forward to achieving Peace in the Middle East! DJT,” Trump captioned the post.

Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pa., earlier this month in which a bullet struck his ear. There have been calls to tamp down political rhetoric in the wake of the shooting from both sides of the aisle.

The Palestinian Authority cut off security ties with the U.S. and Israel during the Trump administration in the wake of an introduction of a Middle East peace plan.

“We’ve informed the Israeli side … that there will be no relations at all with them and the United States including security ties,” Abbas said at the time, Reuters reported.

Trump and Netanyahu are set to meet Friday after Netanyahu gives a speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. President Biden will also meet with Netanyahu on Thursday.
