Wayne Brady Explains That Coming Out Didn’t Totally Change His Life & Why That’s Perfectly Okay

Almost a year ago, Let’s Make a Deal star Wayne Brady opened himself up to the world and came out as pansexual. For the first time ever, Brady was embracing his true self, and showing everyone how dedicated he is to being his happy, authentic self, both for himself and his family.

Now, almost a year later, Brady is prouder than ever for coming out. But before you start thinking that his life (and dating life) has drastically changed since, you might want to think again.

“Coming out was for me, so I didn’t expect any grand [thing]. It wasn’t a transformation,” the actor told People. “It’s not like Beauty and the Beast where all of a sudden you’re whipped and changed. The change is internal and it’s a great change to feel.”

“For me, the change was a little turn and a click then I could breathe a little easier, and walk a little lighter,” he reflected alongside his ex-wife Mandie Taketa, their 21-year-old daughter Maile Brady, and Taketa’s boyfriend, Jason Fordham.

“Maybe bigger changes will happen but right now this change is great,” Brady added. “I think I have a different light and I think that light is going to affect me as a parent, as a man, as a friend, as an actor. I’m just carrying myself a little differently.”

With that said, it’s safe to say the moment still meant a lot for the Emmy winner. “It’s not the biggest thing that’s happened in my life. It’s one of the sweetest things that’s happened in my life, and that’s why I think it’s good,” he said. “I don’t walk around every day going, ‘Look at this difference, look at this change.’”

“It’s normal, which everyone should be allowed to just have your baseline be whatever your happy is,” he continued. “And my happy is I can just be free, and do what I want to, when I want to do it, and with whomever. That’s the cool part.”

This month, Brady and the rest of his family are starring in their new reality TV series on Hulu, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. In addition to wanting to show another side of himself, and introduce his unconventional family to the world, Brady’s looking forward to having his perspective shown on streaming TV.

“To my knowledge, I’m the only me that has come out as pansexual in such a public way in my space, and I think the last metric of success is that I got to do it with the people I love,” he told the outlet.
