The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company said it had net income of $6.31 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.17 per share.
The homebuilder posted revenue of $1.7 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.69 billion, also topping Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.58 billion.
Meritage expects full-year earnings to be $19.80 to $21 per share.
