Pete took part in the show in 2015 and came out in defence of Janette Manrara today after Paralympian Will Bayley, 36, blamed her for suffering an injury in the 2019 series.

Will revealed he suffered a “life-changing” injury after being told to jump off a table in one routine.

He said after doing it once, Janette told him his jump was “rubbish” and when he tried again, he landed very badly.

He is now demanding an apology from the BBC over his rehearsal injury.

Pete waded into the row on Wednesday afternoon and said he was worried the Strictly scandal had “gone too far”.

He also told fans: “Giovanni was always a gentleman to me.”

Pete faced some backlash over his remarks, as one fan said: “I’m sorry but this…. this is exactly why women don’t come out and disclose what has happened to them. Fear of not being believed, belittled and other men saying ‘they were always such a gentleman they’re a good guy’ yeah they were to you and that doesn’t stop them from not being different to someone else.”

Another fan said: “Graziano has actually admitted to assaulting Zara McDermott by means of kicking her.

“Why would anyone support someone who is capable of assault when they should be there to encourage the non dancer to learn and feel safe in the environment they are in?”

Replying to the last comment, Pete said: “Yes, and I definitely am not in support of that. It’s disgusting.

“I’m talking about others who’s names have just been dragged in to this without any evidence.”

Amanda Abbington was the first Strictly whistleblower and has also spoken out today about being attacked by online trolls for speaking up.

The actress was partnered with Giovanni Pernice last year but quit the BBC dance competition and claimed he bullied her behind the scenes

Amanda, 50, told Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy that after speaking out she had received “death and rape threats” and “threats to myself and my daughter and threats of death to my son”.
