Red Sox Rumors: Boston Sparks Extension Talks With Alex Cora

Alex Cora is right in the middle of the success story for the 2024 Boston Red Sox. He’s also doing so in a contract year.

Boston may be taking the first steps in ensuring Cora sticks around to keep that progress rolling.

The Red Sox have engaged in negotiations with the Boston manager on a multi-year contract extension, per reports from ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Buster Olney. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman also added context to the negotiations.

Olney added that a deal for Cora to remain with the Red Sox could be in the range of three years and $21.75 million. That puts the Boston skipper just south of the megadeal the Chicago Cubs gave Craig Counsell at five years and $40 million.

Cora holds the fourth-most managerial wins in Red Sox history and took Boston to the American League Championship Series in 2018 and 2021 with the first trip setting up a World Series title.

In the middle of his sixth season at the helm in Boston, Cora could be on the verge of locking his future in with a young Red Sox core.

The deal was not finalized at the time of Boston and the Colorado Rockies kicking off their series finale at Coors Field on Wednesday.
