Just Stop Oil’s belief that their climate panic trumps other people’s right to a summer holiday turns is repugnant

Just Stop hols

IT’S the arrogance that turns the stomach.

Their contempt for the freedoms of fellow citizens. The repugnant self-importance of them believing that their climate panic trumps other people’s right to go to work, to a funeral, to hospital or on their summer holiday.

Just Stop Oil’s unfailingly middle-class protesters doubtless also enjoy jetting to sunnier climes. But yesterday they aimed to stop others doing so.

The idea was to disrupt and cancel flights, to bring misery to families who have saved all year for a decent break.

Why? Because JSO have convinced themselves that an impending apocalypse can only be averted if Britain, our emissions already below one per cent of the global total, stops using gas and oil.

They demand we switch off all but renewable energy by 2030 — that’s a cast-iron guarantee of power-cuts and poverty even Ed Miliband is not yet mad enough to endorse.

Police at Heathrow nipped this new publicity-seeking sabotage in the bud and nicked the eco morons — as cops abroad did the same.

We applaud that. Just as we applauded Judge Christopher Hehir for handing out proper jail stretches last week to their co-plotters.

Too often JSO’s goons have been let off by courts feebly deciding that climate concern excuses unrepentant criminality and extremism. Many yobs — drones of this cult — reoffended immediately.

Our justice system must continue its tough new line. Jurors and judges must not be confused like the millionaire celebs witlessly supporting JSO.

Their stunts cause misery, hardship and often real danger — and must end.

Britain must inch towards Net Zero at a pace which preserves our economy and living standards . . .

While idiots who opt to live as outlaws are swiftly arrested, convicted and jailed exactly as they deserve.

Keep war civil

WE wanted the Tories to take enough time to pick the very best leader.

A three-month contest is still a very long period to be kicking lumps out of each other.

After all the ugly internal battles of the last decade it desperately needs to project stability. It cannot afford more chaos through the summer and autumn.

So may the best woman or man win. But for your own sakes keep it civil.

Bye the Left

KEIR Starmer’s ruthlessness in booting out seven hard-left rebels is gratifying.

We urged him to do it four years ago. Now, though, he has a decent excuse.

Let the extremists join their guru Corbyn, then dump them formally before the next election. Voters will cheer that.

Keeping the two-child benefit cap is right economically and in principle.

Labour must not buckle.
