Suspect allegedly stabbed man with broken bottle, Tigard pet hospital assisted victim

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who was stabbed with a broken bottle is expected to survive after workers from a Tigard pet hospital helped control the bleeding before emergency services arrived.

According to the Tigard Police Department, the suspect was apprehended on a TriMet bus after a stabbing that happened in a business parking lot on Tuesday afternoon. Now 30-year-old Timel Degraffe is accused of multiple charges, including assault.

Police responded at 4:56 p.m. to reports of an assault with a weapon that happened near the 10100 block of Southwest Washington Square Road. Police said the altercation began after the suspect allegedly made "an offensive comment to the victim's partner," then stabbed the person with a broken bottle and took off. The suspect and the victim didn't know each other beforehand, officials said.

After he'd been stabbed, workers at the Hannah Pet Hospital helped to control his bleeding before first responders arrived.

Using witness interviews and coordination with TriMet, officers got a description of the suspect. TriMet then confirmed a person matching the suspect's description was on a bus headed out of Tigard. Police were able to catch up with the bus and arrest the man without incident.

The stabbing victim's injuries were non-life-threatening and he's currently recovering in a hospital, officials said. KOIN 6 News asked Tigard Police what the man's condition was as of Wednesday.

"He's doing OK. I have spoken with him and yes, he's expected to make a full recovery," said Tigard Detective Kaci Mace.

Degraffe has been booked into Washington County jail and faces charges that include second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was also cited for a Multnomah County misdemeanor warrant, officials said.
