Timothée Chalamet does a pretty good Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown teaser

Well damn, Lil Timmy Tim, we didn’t know you had Bob Dylan pipes like that. Timothée Chalamet proved he was a song and dance man with Wonka, but Bob Dylan is, notably, not a song and dance man. But Chalamet’s rendition of "A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall" in the teaser for A Complete Unknown is completely competent. James Mangold really has an eye, because it seems we’re entering Chalamet’s Walk The Line era. Brace yourselves! The teaser trailer doesn’t tease too much beyond Chalamet’s musical performance. It teases some notable locations (the Chelsea Hotel, Cafe Wha?, etc.) and introduces some crucial figures (Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez). A synopsis for the film reads, “Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician BOB DYLAN’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts—his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation—culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.”Chalamet’s Dylan impression is a nice treat, but the real surprise of this trailer is that it exists already. A Complete Unknown began production in March and was still filming as recently as last month, and there’s already a polished teaser and a promise for a December 2024 release date. They'll have filmed, edited, promoted, and released this movie before we even get another season of Severance! The turnaround is eyebrow-raising, but clearly this is a project Searchlight really believes in to get this thing done and dusted in time for the buzziest season for cinema. We wouldn't want to speak too soon based on a vague teaser, but given Chalamet's resumé, reputation, and the push behind this movie, expect to see A Complete Unknown in the Oscars conversation next year.
