To the editor: Conviction Integrity Unit an important 1st step

I am writing to commend Lucas County on the establishment of a Conviction Integrity Unit, or CIU, in Prosecutor Julia Bates’ office. The CIU is a critical step in ensuring justice and accountability in our legal system. I’m proud to work in an office that recognizes that we can and do make mistakes, and it is up to us to fix them.
