'You are evil': Republican dragged after saying 'truth got torched' during Biden's speech

The internet mocked a New York Republican who said she wasn't a fan of President Joe Biden's historic address on Wednesday night, in which he said it was time to "pass the torch" to the next generation.

Betsy McCaughey, who served as lieutenant governor of New York in the mid-1990s, appeared as a guest on CNN's "NewsNight" following Biden's address to the nation. After GOP strategist and commentator Ana Navarro told the panel Biden will likely go down as one of the most "consequential" presidents in history, McCaughey disagreed.

"I wanted to love this speech," she said. "I truly did. The 'old warrior about to say goodbye' — somebody who has given decades to the country."

But, she added, "In the end, when he said he was 'passing the torch' I felt that, in fact, the truth got torched because everyone was waiting for him to give an honest reason why he suddenly changed his mind. And we didn't get it."

In the speech, Biden said: "We are a great nation because we are good people. Nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy. That includes personal ambition. So I decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation."

McCaughey was the subject of mockery on the social media app X.

"The Repugnant Party is slimy," chided @WillLilly10. "If Pres. Biden stepped down for the betterment of the country that all we need to know. Now tell me would that liar you support do the same if he had too, of course he wouldn’t. I would expect more from a Lt. Gov, but u are apart of that party."
