Firefighters bring fire in Arsos under control

Firefighters were called to the village of Arsos in the Limassol district late Wednesday night to tackle a large fire that broke out shortly before 1am.

According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, a response was initiated at around 12.50am for a fire located between the communities of Arsos and Omodos.

The blaze burned dry grass and wild shrubs. Ground forces worked throughout the night, bringing the fire under control by the morning.

Kettis said that a firefighting helicopter also began making water drops in the morning to fully contain the fire. Ground forces will remain on site on Thursday to ensure its full containment and to address any potential flare-ups.

The fire burned a total area of approximately eight hectares. The causes are still being investigated.
