Natural Residence is a minimal home located in Beijing, China, designed by NOV.11 STUDIO. The space is thoughtfully reconfigured, starting with an independent entryway designed for shoe storage and daily essentials. The open-plan living and dining area creates a versatile space for hosting guests, reading, watching movies, enjoying drinks, and dining. Soft sunlight filters through sheer curtains, bathing the room in a warm and comfortable glow. To maintain a cohesive aesthetic, the design features wooden folding doors inspired by traditional shutters, concealing the television when not in use. The walls are finished with lime wash, offering a handcrafted texture reminiscent of wind-swept desert landscapes.

The living room furniture includes a 1963 armchair by Danish designer Kristian Solmer Vedel and a 620 leather armchair by Dieter Rams. These pieces, aged gracefully over the years, create a timeless intersection of space and era. The kitchen, considered the heart of the home, is designed with a long dining table that extends from the island, providing ample workspace. The dining chairs are the 3LC T Chairs, a 1952 collaboration by Douglas Kelly, Ross Littell, and William Katavolos. Weathered wooden double doors with deep, rich textures add a sense of history and vitality to the space. Beyond the kitchen lies a music studio, a sanctuary where time seems to stand still, enveloped in sound.

An L-shaped corridor, connecting the entryway, leads to the bedroom and bathroom areas. The external washbasin wall is adorned with beige ceramic tiles, offering a handcrafted natural feel. The bathroom features a shower toilet and a laundry area separated by a waterproof linen curtain, providing ample space for washing, drying, and storage. The master bedroom separates the wardrobe area, allowing sunlight to filter through wooden blinds, casting elongated shadows. The wardrobe doors are made of rattan, introducing varied natural textures. A ceiling fan in the bedroom, combined with the gentle aroma of burning palo santo, creates a calming atmosphere. Lime-washed storage cabinets ensure visual unity, enhancing the room’s tranquility and comfort.
