‘I’m stealing this idea’ people rave as savvy camper shares the £1 hack that’ll keep your tent spotless

NOW children have broken up for summer and festivals are happening up and down the country, people are sharing their hacks for going camping.

One of those campers is Kirsty, aka @justtied1972 on TikTok.

She shared a video on the platform about her camping trip with her sister in Wales to tell her followers about how they were keeping their space clean.

“Camping hack that I stole off somebody else,” she began.

“£1 laundry bin, stick a black bag in it – there you go,” she said.

Kirsty then showed a close-up of the bin, which she got from Poundland, with the bag inside as her sister joked: “There’s rubbish inside!”

You can pick up a laundry basket like Kirsty’s from Wilko for £1.99.

Its description reads: “This Pop-Up Foldable Mesh Laundry Hamper is designed with handles at the top to enable easy carrying.

“Great for any home, this features a fold-flat design when not in use

People in the comments said they would be ‘stealing’ her hack when they next took their tent out for the night.

“I saw the laundry bin for a bin yes I’m stealing the idea as well [thumbs up and rolling on the floor laughing emoji],” wrote one person.

Another commented: “Amazing! I’m using that for the next time. Thank you!”

“Omg seriously been camping for 15 years [and] never ever thought of that I am stealing this,” someone else said.

However, others were concerned about animals getting to the used food and winds blowing it away.

“Then you get some wind & it’s halfway across the field!!” said one person.

Another commented: “Did this last year, was great until a rat got in the porch that didn’t have the built-in GS and chewed through the bin.”

“Animals be straight in that at night hope you take it inside,” a third penned.

Kirsty clarified she and her sister did take it inside and it was only outside as they’d been having dinner.

Another user spotted another good idea Kirsty had for camping – the solar lights outside the tent.

They said: “The pegs are such a good idea for the solar lights. I’ll be doing that for sure.”

This isn’t the first great camping hack to be shared recently.

Three camping tips from an expert

David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.

When visiting any campsite this summer it’s important to make sure you’re not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.

Check your tent

David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you’re due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.

He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”

Test the ground

Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.

One of those should be the condition of the ground you’re putting your tent on top of, according to David.

He said: “Once you’ve found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”

Don’t nap in your tent

It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it’s done at the wrong time of the day.

David explained: “If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!

“One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke.”

Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.

A TikToker shared her step-mom’s trick to help food from spoiling, which can also help with first aid.

Instead of using food coolers with ice in them, she recommended using food containers filled with ice.

This can then double as an ice pack.

“They work as ice packs, but when they melt, you pour them out, and at that point, you’ve made a bunch of food, so you can refill them with food,” she said.

“My stepmom is a genius.”
