Why does Nepal suffer so many air crashes?

Nepal has a poor record on air safety, with over 360 deaths in airplane or helicopter crashes since 2000. The country's landlocked terrain, including eight of the world's 14 highest peaks, and the lack of flat terrain make navigation difficult. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) identified collision with terrain as the main risk, accounting for 93% of deaths in air accidents in the past decade.
