Shocking new figures released today by Baby Bank Alliance reveal that the almost 200,000 British children were supported by baby banks last year.

The research also showed a 54 per cent increase in referrals to baby banks between 2021 and 2023.

Sophie Livingstone, Chair of the Baby Bank Alliance said: “All children should have a safe place to sleep, warm clothes and shoes that fit.

“Without baby banks across the UK providing this incredible safety net, thousands of children would be missing out.”

Last year generous Sun readers and powerhouse British businesses donated more than £100,000 to the Baby, Bank on Us and Cosy at Christmas campaigns, as well as many volunteering their time and giving second hand goods.

The Baby Bank Alliance will bring Britain’s 200 baby banks across the together, allowing them to support each other and work together.

The Fabulous Baby, Bank On Us appeal, backed by The Princess of Wales, exposed how families hit by the cost of living crisis are relying on baby banks.

The Baby, Bank On Us campaign is championed by Princess Kate, who said “I’m very proud to support it.”.

Kate Middleton, 42 — known for her work to elevate the importance of early childhood — urged people to volunteer or donate to the Fabulous campaign as “the children of today will build the society of the future.”

Popstar Leona Lewis, 39, TV presenter Christine Lampard, 45, Good Morning Britain host Charlotte Hawkins, 49, popstar Alexandra Burke, 35, and TV personality Kate Lawler, 44, have also passionately backed the campaign.

Big Brands stepped up to make life-changing donations including  Sainsburys, Tesco, Ocado, Pampers and Lidl
