Obama endorsement of Harris expected 'soon': report

Former President Barack Obama will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee "soon," according to a new report.

On Thursday, sources familiar with the plans told CNN an endorsement was imminent.

"We had heard from aides on Sunday that the former president was taking an approach similar to that of 2020 in waiting to endorse in hopes of trying to unify the party," CNN correspondent Priscilla Alvarez told host Jim Acosta.

"Now, it is becoming clear that the vice president will be the Democratic nominee so it seems as though we are getting even closer to that endorsement from former President Barack Obama."

"Jim, this would be significant, an endorsement from former President Barack Obama," she said. "We have not seen it yet. We are inching closer to it, it appears, but that is also because we are now in a position where the vice president is on track to be the Democratic nominee.

"And as we have learned from aides to the former president that he wanted to ... put his endorsement in in an attempt to unify the party when we got to that point."

Sources told NBC that Obama had been in contact with Harris ahead of an endorsement.

"He has been in regular contact with her and thinks she's been off to a great start," one source said.
