Maya Erskine (‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’): Emmys 2024 episode submission revealed
Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Maya Erskine is entering the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” episode “A Breakup” as her 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Drama Actress. “A Breakup” debuted on February 2, 2024, and is the Season 1 finale of the Amazon Prime Video show’s first season.
In “A Breakup,” Jane (Erskine) and John (fellow 2024 Emmy nominee Donald Glover release their frustration and a shared resentment in a flurry of violence – before finally reaching an emotional honesty that had eluded them previously. The episode was written by co-creators Glover and Francesca Sloane and directed by Glover. “A Breakup” also received Emmy nominations for music supervision, stunts and guest actor Paul Dano.
Erskine is a first-time Emmy Award acting nominee. (She was a previous nominee for “Pen15,” twice as a writer, in 2019 and 2021, and then as a producer for the show’s 2021 Best Comedy Series nomination.) For this 2024 contest, Erskine is competing against Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Carrie Coon (“The Gilded Age”), Anna Sawai (“Shogun”), Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”), and Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show”). The 2023 category winner was Sarah Snook for the final season of “Succession.”
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” received 16 total nominations this year, including Best Drama Series, Best Drama Actor for Glover, and guest acting nominations for Dano, John Turturro, Parker Posey, Sarah Paulson and Michaela Coel.
