'What desperation': Trump's Kamala Harris attacks fail to impress powerful Dem lawmaker

Former President Donald Trump's attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris did not inspire shock and outrage so much as a pitying smile from one powerful Democrat.

"What desperation," Rep. Lloyd Alton Doggett (D-TX) said.

This was his response to a CNN segment Thursday morning that featured a clip of Trump attacking his likely new opponent in the upcoming presidential election.

"She's a San Francisco radical," Trump says. "I'd love to be nice, but I'm dealing against real garbage."

The CNN Anchor Sara Sidner suggested Doggett might be outraged that a former president was describing a fellow American and current vice president, but Doggett responded with a verbal eye roll.

"Hardly news that Donald Trump will not be nice," Doggett said. "It really is desperation. He has debased the political dialogue."

Doggett then argued such rhetoric won't serve Trump with voters who connect his violent political rhetoric to the recent assassination attempt on his own life.

"Few people in the history of American politics have done as much to try to provoke violence in our political dialogue," Doggett said. "Kamala Harris, I think will rise above this."
