Trump biographer points out ex-president's 'desperate and crazed' campaign email

Donald Trump's campaign sent an email to supporters that one of his former biographers is calling "desperate and crazed."

David Cay Johnston, author of "The Making of Donald Trump," pointed to the Thursday Trump email, which reads: "I'm putting together a MASSIVE response right here and now that leaves no doubt about our resolve in the face of PURE EVIL."

Trump's campaign fundraising has always been strong, but the spending was significant, leading to a substantial gap in cash-on-hand.

Fortune reported this week that Trump finally caught up to the Democratic war chest, "then came a $100 million blue tsunami."

"Trump campaign had nearly $45 million more cash on hand than the Biden campaign did," the report said, citing Federal Election Committee (FEC) reports.

The Democratic donation site ActBlue reported more than $100 million in donations in the first 24.5 hours since Vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the nominee. In the first 48 hours, the Harris campaign brought in $154 million.

NBC News reported last month about the emotional roller coaster of Trump's fundraising emails.

The examples of subject lines went from “You’re on my mind" to “Do you need a hug?” and “I love you," to suddenly, “They want to sentence me to death!”

"It’s like a reading multiple-personality battery test. I’m not sure exactly what they’re aiming for,” commented Democratic strategist Tim Lim.

Hours after Trump's email calling her "pure evil," Harris' campaign released a statement referring to Trump as "a 78-year-old criminal."
