Watch: Kamala Harris overwhelmed as applause drowns speech to teachers

Vice President Kamala Harris was overwhelmed by enthusiastic applause on Thursday as she addressed the American Federation of Teachers National Convention in Houston, Texas.

The applause started as Harris took the stage and wished members of the AFT "good morning."

She then asked members to have a seat, but many of them continued cheering, making it difficult for Harris to begin her speech.

"It is good to be in the house of labor!" Harris exclaimed to further cheers in the room.

Harris has attended multiple campaign events ever since President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.

Many political observers have credited her with injecting some energy back into Democrats' bid to retain the White House in 2024, as she provides not only a contrast with the 81-year-old President Joe Biden but also the 78-year-old former President Donald Trump.

Harris, who was endorsed by Biden on Sunday after he announced that he would be dropping out of the 2024 race, has quickly consolidated support within the Democratic Party and has helped fuel a surge in grassroots donations.

During her speech in Houston, Harris began by praising Biden and saying his decision to reluctantly exit the race was a sign of true leadership.
