Architect Brian Rankin Andrew, a former partner at WZMH Architects, died peacefully on July 3, 2024, at the age of 73. He endured two years with terminal brain cancer, but remained optimistic throughout his journey.

Andrew joined WZMH Architects in 1983 and served as a partner from 1990 to 2013. He was an inspiration to many, both at WZMH as well as the larger architectural and development community.

“He was passionate about design and spent many hours at his drawing board with his set of pens and markers creating master plans and envisioning new buildings. His designs continue to capture the imagination with their clarity and boldness. Brian was responsible for some of the firm’s most distinctive projects, earning numerous awards both locally and internationally,” reads a post on WZMH’s Instagram page.

“Creative, adventurous and kind, Brian was an accomplished architect with an unparalleled eye for design. He could draw architectural marvels freehand and artwork that is cherished by his family and friends,” reads an obituary on Legacy.com that was published by the Globe and Mail.

As a partner at WZMH Architects, Andrew designed  buildings around the world including the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Caesars Casino in Windsor and Nations Tower in Abu Dhabi. He also designed his own house in the Cabbagetown neighbourhood of Toronto.

A celebration of his life will be held in October. In lieu of flowers, donations can me made in Andrew’s memory to the palliative care team at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, who cared for him in his final weeks.
