'The future is now': Taylor Center to be hub for semiconductors, latest technology

The future site of the Taylor Center hopes to be a hub for teaching and research in the semiconductor field in Taylor.

TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) — Taylor will soon have a new hub for technology training — and it will be just about a mile away from Taylor's Samsung semiconductor facility.

The future University of Texas at Austin - Taylor Center will focus on training and research in the semiconductor field.

According to the school, "UT will work with the Taylor community and industry partners to determine the highest-impact uses of the Taylor Center to grow and support Central Texas’ semiconductor workforce and supply chain," a news release said.

UT said the undeveloped land, adjacent to Taylor High School on U.S. Highway 79, is a gift from the Temple College at Taylor Foundation.

Taylor residents set up the group to help with higher education in the city.

Williamson County reporter Barrett Tryon is in Taylor and talking with the city's economic leaders about what it could mean for the region. See his report at 6 p.m. on KXAN.
