'Did you not hear?' Fox's Peter Doocy gets swift scolding from Karine Jean-Pierre

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday swiftly rebuked Fox News' Peter Doocy for ignoring a dramatic decline in illegal crossings at the United States-Mexico border.

During a press briefing, Doocy needled Jean-Pierre over Vice President Kamala Harris' work in trying to address the root causes of mass migration to the southern border that have caused President Joe Biden political headaches for the past four years.

However, Jean-Pierre quickly retorted that Doocy was ignoring good news about illegal migrant crossings.

"Did you not hear the beginning? ... I talked about what we're seeing at the border," she said. "[Border crossings are] down by 55 percent. Not because of Republicans in Congress and what they did, it's because of what this president and this vice president did."

While polls have consistently shown handling of immigration to be Biden's weakest issue, it is also the case that border crossings have dropped dramatically ever since Biden issued an executive order that closed down the asylum system until border crossings reached a certain level.

As CBS News reported earlier this week, "July is on track to see the fifth consecutive monthly drop in migrant apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border and the lowest level in illegal immigration there since the fall of 2020, during the Trump administration, the internal Department of Homeland Security figures show."

Jean-Pierre also took a shot at Republicans for ditching a bipartisan border security deal that would have provided further resources to control migration at the border.

"Republicans continue to block resources to the Border Patrol agents," she charged. "They continue to block actually dealing with an immigration system."
