My mother-in-law bought her own wedding dress for my nuptials – I had a brilliant plan to make sure she didn’t wear it
A BRIDE wasn’t going to let her future mother-in-law ruin her big day without a little revenge.
She devised a plan to get a little payback in case anyone threatened to upstage her at the wedding.

Redditor Rissie06 has shared how she and her now husband’s family had always gotten along “quite well.”
That is until wedding planning “fights” arose between herself and both his mother and her own over things like decor, but there was one thing she wasn’t willing to compromise on.
“The cherry on the cake was my mother-in-law’s outfit she was planning on wearing,” she said.
“She continued to show me pictures of the outfits she was planning on wearing – all of which were completely white,” she continued.
“I tried multiple angles with her. First trying to nudge her in a different color direction, then casually bringing up the no-white rule.
She explained how her “direct” approach didn’t seem to be working.
Things took a more serious turn, however, when her mother-in-law’s online orders arrived, forcing her to think of a “plan fast.”
“Finally I got to to see this outfit and to be honest I prepared myself for the obvious,” she said.
“That it would be white and even considered letting the whole white thing slide with her just to spare myself the mental strain.
“But I never thought she would order a literal wedding dress! Thank goodness it was one of those expectation versus reality moments and the dress quality was terrible and went straight to the trash!”
NOTHING LIKE A LITTLE REVENGE
While some might have yelled or even cried, she decided to get even.
“After venting to my sister and other bridesmaids about the whole situation I suggested that there should be some kind of punishment for guests, aka mother-in-law, should they show up in white,” she said.
“And so the jacket of shame idea started,” she added.
She and her sister decided on a yellow reflective jacket that you “usually see construction workers wear.”
To make sure everyone was aware of the consequences, her sister assisted in helping her set up a decorating station at her bridal shower to decorate the Jacket of Shame.
“It turned out to be quite the hit!” she said.
“Family members also got in on the fun, using glitter pens and colorful Sharpies to add their own messages including ‘How dare you show up in white, ‘Are you the bride? I think not,’ etc.”

She was serious about not letting anyone try to steal the show.
The future bride made sure everyone knew the consequences of wearing white, or anything resembling a wedding dress.
“The jacket won’t be allowed to be taken off – even in official wedding/family photos,” she said.
And she wasn’t worried about the aftermath.
“Maybe I took it too far after someone asked ‘But won’t that ruin your photos and throw off the whole aesthetic?'” she said.
“I bluntly replied “Not at all! I would frame the photo and hang it up in our house as a reminder/trophy,” she added.
It must have done the trick because her mother-in-law wound up wearing another type of wardrobe altogether.
“Needless to say, I never got that photo and my mother-in-law turned up in an all-black funeral outfit to our wedding,” she said.
“I took it as a win but I keep getting shade every now and then from his mother and aunt about how inappropriate the jacket was.”
Others expressed how they would have loved to gotten in on the jacket fun.
“I’d have done my best to convince someone to wear a floaty white cape over their – different colored – dress while making a big dramatic entrance! Lol,” said one user.
