Chris Evans Talks Future of Captain America & That 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Cameo (Where He's Not Playing Cap!)

Chris Evans opened up about his history with Marvel, which dates back to well before he suited up for the first time as Captain America!

The 43-year-old actor led the Avengers for nearly a decade before handing off his shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

He returned to the franchise in the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine. However, he’s not playing Cap.

In a new interview, he discussed the cameo, his first experience with Marvel and if he ever thinks about reprising his role as the Star-Spangled Man With a Plan.

In the movie, Chris reprised his first-ever Marvel role – Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. If you forgot, the actor played a member of the Fantastic Four back in 2005.

Chris said that Ryan reached out to ask him about revisiting the character nearly 20 years later.

“Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would’ve done it for because he’s just got the Midas touch,” he told EW. “His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan‘s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”

He continued, saying that the experience for him was “pretty easy” and only entailed a few days on set. The costume was also “slightly” better than before.

“Primarily because where we find Johnny, he’s meant to be a little more rundown, so the costume didn’t have to be pristine,” he told the outlet. “Those first two movies, that’s when Marvel was really still trying to find their footing. So everything had to be very precise and had a lot of meetings, a lot of opinions. This was a little more like, ‘Yeah, we know it. We’ve seen it.’”

Despite the pressure for perfection at the time, he said that he had “nothing but fond memories” from the experience.

“Doing that movie, you turn a corner and it just feels like it brought me to the next level of my career. I loved working with the people that were on that film. I loved the role. It was nothing but love and affection for that time,” he said.

While he was down for the cameo, it sounds like fans should not hold out for him playing Captain America again.

“No. No, not really,” he told EW when asked if the new movie inspired thoughts of a comeback.
