Who is Simone Biles?
Simone Biles was born in Columbus, Ohio where she endured a tricky childhood in and out of foster care.
But despite the early life challenges, Biles still picked up prowess in gymnastics early and was encouraged to continue with the sport.
The American began properly training at the age of eight, and by the time she was 16 international competitions were on the cards.
Just three years later, she was competing at the Rio Olympics – and her name became synonymous with gold medals.
How many Olympic medals does Biles have?
Simone Biles has won seven Olympic medals – four gold, one silver, and two bronze.
Biles won all of the above honours at Rio in 2016 as part of Team USA.
Outside of the Olympics, the American has earned 30 World Championship medals – 23 gold, four silver and three bronze.
The athlete is tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast.
