A headless, singing Marie Antoinette was part of an unhinged Paris Olympics opening ceremony
Full disclosure: I’m not up enough on my French history, so you’ll pardon me here.
But, uh, Marie Antoinette was queen of France in the late 1700s and was beheaded. That much I know. And while I know the French Revolution overthrew the French monarchy, I would not expect there to be a tribute at the wild 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony with … a body holding a head in its hands and singing.
But there was! And people had a lot of reactions to the move to do that in something that would represent France.
Here’s a sampling of some of that reaction:

A beheaded Marie Antoinette is one of the wildest and craziest things ever at the Olympics #Olympics #OpeningCeremony

I was not into this opening ceremony until Marie Antoinette’s severed heads showed up.
