CAN’T MAKE IT UP

Redditor Indecisivelibra01 shared her secret to regularly cleaning her makeup brushes without any hassle.

“I have a weird process for washing my brushes. It’s strange but effective,” she wrote.

She asked other users to bear with her before admitting she washes them in the shower.

The Reddit user explained that she cleans them while waiting for her conditioners and masks to sink into her hair.

“Essentially, the hot water, being in a place of cleansing, and having nothing else to do during that time while letting my hair products work is what has been working for me for months now,” she said.

NO PAIN PRO TIP

She said an added bonus was that she no longer had to suffer through unnecessary pain.

“I also hate leaning over the sink to wash brushes for ages,” she said.

“[It] feels more mundane that [way] and my back ends up hurting.”

Instead, she keeps a bar soap in her shower that is “specifically” designated for washing her brushes.

She simply swirls them onto the bar a few times before washing them with her hands and rinsing them off.

Just make sure they’ve been “fully saturated” by the water, she advised.

DRY FASTER

The Redditor also shared a tip for helping the bristles dry faster.

“This is niche, but after squeezing out the excess water after rinsing them, I place the clean brushes into a swimming towel I have,” she said.

She explained that the towel has a “little pouch built into it (made of the towel) to literally pack the towel into itself.”

“It’s odd, but the towel pouch completely covering the brushes really helps to expedite drying time,” she said.

Those who could relate to the pain of painstakingly cleaning their brushes were no doubt thankful for the tip.

“It makes me feel like an octogenarian, my back aching from literally standing,” said one Reddit user.

“Yes, the back aches from leaning over the sink! I didn’t mention it in my post as I thought that was just me. I feel so seen!” she replied.

Dirty makeup brushes can become a “breeding ground” for bacteria, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Waiting too long to clean your brushes can result in acne and rashes, as well as more serious fungal infections.

To avoid any skincare disasters, experts recommend washing your brushes every seven to ten days.
