School bus drivers needed at USD 450

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee Heights School District (USD 450) is searching for people who want to help kids get to and from school.

Before signing up for official training, job candidates can test drive one of the school buses. On Thursday, July 25 experienced bus drivers went with trainees around school grounds.

This effort gives potential drivers a taste of school day traffic in the hopes of filling a crucial need.

"The most important thing is we've got to get the kids to school and we want to do that safely," said USD 450 support services director Nick Taylor. "When we are able to hire some more staff, it benefits the regular drivers we have now."
