After Rohit Sharma’s retirement and end of head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure, Suryakumar Yadav will take over the captaincy reigns while Gautam Gambhir is beginning his first-ever stint as the head coach of an international side. 

India’s first challenge is a three-match series against Sri Lanka which gets underway in Pallekele International Stadium in Kancy on Saturday (July 27). Team India opener Shubman Gill was full of praise for coach Gambhir after the first couple of training sessions in Sri Lanka.  

“We have had just two net sessions so far, and this is my first time of working with him (Gambhir). But in the two sessions, the things he has spoken to me, what I found out is that his intent and communication is very clear – like what he wants out of the players and in us going about our business, his communication remains very clear,” Gill told reporters in Pallekele on Thursday. 

India have won three out of the last five T20I matches against Sri Lanka, including the last clash between the two sides in Rajkot last year by a massive 91-run margin where new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav had score 112 off 51 balls with 9 sixes.
