Evacuation orders issued as fire burns between Bay Point and Concord

BAY POINT – Evacuation orders and warnings were issued Friday afternoon as firefighters battled a brush fire burning between the cities of Bay Point and Concord.

The Point Fire broke out just before 3 p.m. off Evora Road. As of 4:40 p.m., the blaze had consumed 150 acres and was 0% contained, according to the Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit.

Evacuation orders were issued for zones CCC-E201, CCC-E215 and CCC-E216 in Concord.

“This is an evacuation order,” a Contra Costa County Community Warning System message stated. “Leave immediately. Take only important items you have ready and can carry with you.”

Evacuation warnings were issued for zones CCC-E217 and CCC-E218 in Bay Point.

Rosie Myers, the owner of Oceanview Preschool & Daycare in Bay Point, voiced concern as “dark, gloomy smoke” could be seen rising from the fire around 4:20 p.m. Friday. She said she was preparing to evacuate, and was waiting for orders from county emergency officials to flee.

“It’s pretty scary,” Myers said. “Just to hear that it’s so close. You can definitely smell it. We have our family putting on masks.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
