Britney Spears put Halsey on blast over the music video for her new song “Lucky,” which samples Britney‘s song of the same name.

The 29-year-old “Without Me” hitmaker dropped their single on Friday (July 26). Its chorus is heavily inspired by Britney‘s song, and the accompanying music video also draws parallels to the original.

While Halsey said that she had Britney‘s blessing for the sample, it does not appear that Britney appreciated the accompanying visual.

She took to social media to respond in a heated message.

“For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video,” Britney wrote in a message shared on X (formerly Twitter). “I feel harassed, violated, and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all.”

She continued, writing, “I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it up to show i CARE. I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right cruel.”

It is not immediately clear which elements of the music video offended Britney. We’ll update you if Halsey responds or if she has more to say.

If you were unaware, Halsey has recently opened up about some health struggles that she is experiencing.

This is not the first time that Britney has clapped back at a fellow celebrity this month.
