Meryl Streep (‘Only Murders in the Building’): Emmys 2024 episode submission revealed

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Meryl Streep is entering the “Only Murders in the Building” episode “Grab Your Hankies” as her 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. The episode aired on August 15 and is the third one of the third season of the Hulu series.

In “Grab Your Hankies,” Loretta (Streep) lands a role on the Los Angeles-based “Grey’s New Orleans Family Burn Unit,” which would require her to drop out of Oliver’s (Martin Short) play, now revamped into a musical called “Death Rattle Dazzle!” Oliver agrees to let her out of her contract if she sings the Nanny’s lullaby for the producers, Donna (Linda Emond) and Cliff (Wesley Taylor). Loretta’s moving performance of “Look for the Light” stuns Donna and Cliff, who agree to finance the musical, forcing Loretta to stay. Loretta and Oliver then kiss.

A six-time nominee, Streep received her first nomination in a comedy category this year. She’s shortlisted alongside Carol Burnett (“Palm Royale”), Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”), Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”), Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”). Streep has won three Emmys, two in Best Limited/TV Movie Actress for “Holocaust” (1978) and “Angels in America” (2004), and one in Best Narrator for “Five Came Back” (2017).

“Only Murders in the Building” nabbed 21 nominations this year for a three-season total of 49.
