Festival at Evergy Plaza celebrates African-American culture

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A four-day festival celebrating African-American culture is underway in the Capital City.

The second annual For The Culture Kansas Fest continued at Evergy plaza Friday. It highlights African-American culture in the Sunflower State. Dancers and musicians are performing at Evergy Plaza throughout the weekend, where African-American art will also be on display.

An event organizer with For The Culture Kansas, the group behind the event, says it's important to share African-American culture.

"African-American culture is so rich and embedded in American history that we need people to know that it's not just for us, it's for everyone," Alona Harrison with For The Culture Kansas said. "African-American history and African-American culture is for us, by us, for the community."
