Officials from Iberia, St. Mary Parishes send condolences after death of Lafayette police officer

Multiple law enforcement agencies were present during Thursday's standoff. Among those were the Baldwin Police Department. News 10 spoke with Baldwin Police Chief Anthony Gibson about the sacrifice law enforcement takes every day they leave home.

(KLFY) --- News 10 spoke with multiple law enforcement officials from Iberia and St. Mary parishes about Thursday's events resulting in the death of Lafayette police officer Corporal Segan Jolivette. They all said although this is the risk law enforcement takes, events like what happened never get easy to deal with.

"I told my wife I wish I was me and not him," Jeanerette City Marshal Fernest Martin said.

"You should commend the officers with the job that they do because their life is on the line each and every day," Gibson said.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Tommy Romero talked about the dangers when protecting and serving the community. He said serving a warrant is one of the riskiest things they do, which is why every precaution must be made.

"Unfortunately, it ended up in this situation it happened and it unfolded the way it did. We're all we're very sad about this," Romero said.

All law enforcement officials News 10 spoke with say the same thing: they appreciate Corporal Jolivette's service and the sacrifice he made.
