After an absolutely dreadful homestand, the Mariners head out on another road trip. Theoretically the 27-win White Sox are an easy landing spot for a struggling club, but the Mariners could only scrape across one run in each of the games against the Angels, and will have the task of facing three good starters in Chicago, starting with Drew Thorpe, who handled the Mariners easily over his MLB debut back in June, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings.

Lineups:

Not to kick an organization that is down, but is terrible graphic design, guys. You are missing the INFO part of infographic here.

News:

In case you’ve been under a rock today, the Mariners acquired reliever Yimi García from the Blue Jays for OF Jonatan Clase and minor-league catcher Jacob Sharp.

And in case you’ve been in a rock the last two days, the Mariners acquired Randy Arozarena from the Rays for two minor-leaguers, CF Aidan Smith and RHP Brody Hopkins, plus a PTBNL who’s said to be a “not-insignificant” prospect (think someone like pitcher Walter Ford or someone else from back end of the Top 30).

Also of note:

  • Arozarena will join the team this weekend and is expected to play in Saturday’s game. Even more reason to come join us at Growler Guys!
  • Gregory Santos had an MRI that looks “okay”:

Today’s game information:

Game time: 5:10 PT

TV: ROOT Sports NW, with Aaron Goldsmith and Mike Blowers

Radio: 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Dave Sims and Rick Rizzs

Programming note: tomorrow’s game at 4:15 will air exclusively on FOX, with Aaron Goldsmith and A.J. Pierzynski on the call. Also, you should come watch it with us at Growler Guys if you can!

As an additional note, the August 11 game against the Mets has been moved to Sunday Night Baseball, with a new start time of 4:10 PT. This will be the first time the Mariners have been on Sunday Night Baseball since July 31, 2016 against the Cubs, and the first time the Mariners have had a home Sunday Night Broadcast since June 6, 2004—funnily enough, against the other Chicago baseball team, the White Sox.

Today in Mariners history:

  • 2011: The Mariners get perfecto’d by the Yankees’ CC Sabathia into the seventh inning and score just one run on one hit while striking out 18 times. Around here we call that a Tuesday.
  • 2013: Félix Hernández carried a shutout into the 9th inning, but allowed a run on a pinch-hit single by Trevor Plouffe to tie the game at 1-1, and the Twins won 3-2 in extras thanks to a two-run home run by Chris Colabello in the 13th inning.
  • 2015: Franklin Gutierrez hit a walk off home run and the Mariners turned a rare triple play in a 6-5 win over Toronto in 10 innings. The 3-6-2-2 triple play, the 11th in franchise history, was the first Triple Play featuring a 3-6-2-2 putout since Aug. 3, 1955 (per SABR).
  • 2019: J.P. makes The Throw:
  • 2021: Dylan Moore hits a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the eighth as the Mariners overcome a 7-0 deficit to beat the Houston Astros, 11-8.
