‘That name is a hate crime’ people shame parents after they announce the birth of their baby with a ‘rude’ moniker

SOCIAL media users have been left horrified after seeing a birth announcement sign, immediately realising the moniker sounds very ”rude”.

Parents will know that finding the name for your newborn takes a lot of time and effort – while some want it to sound nice, others look for a moniker with a meaning.

But most importantly you should probably pick a name that the little one wouldn’t be teased and bullied for as they grow up.

However, it seems that this clearly isn’t something one US-based couple considered when naming their tot

Unfortunately for the baby, the proud parents also shared the name on a huge birth announcement sign – and people have been both horrified and in hysterics.

The sign read: “Welcome to the world Annaly, 7lbs 10oz.”

According to nicebabyname.com, Annaly is an Irish moniker and their variation of the female name Annaleigh, which means ”light” or ”grace”.

The website said: ”It is a perfect choice for parents looking for a unique and timeless name for their daughter.”

However, despite the lovely meaning, people have pointed out that when you write the name down, it instantly looks like something rather rude.

One person joked: “Not the traditional way to give birth, but I guess to each their own!”

Someone else chuckled: “I’ve never heard of a baby being born that way before…”

A third quipped: “This is my other daughter, Orally.”

A social media user replied: ”You joke, but I’ve 100% seen the name ‘Oralee’ before.

”I think people were trying to go for ‘Aurelie’.”

Several were also concerned about the kid’s future, saying the little girl would be subjected to brutal mocking by peers.

“That poor kid’s gonna get so mercilessly bullied…”

Are Unique Baby Names Worth The Hassle?

Fabulous' Deputy Editor reveals the turmoil she faced with her own name while growing up.

When I was a child, all I wanted was one of those personalised keyrings with my name on it.

But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not great for a little girl) and Joanne.

Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.

When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be pretty annoying.

Although I have come into contact with a couple of Josies over the last year – there seems to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends have.

On the whole I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or crazily spelt.

And it means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.

I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not that attached to Griffiths as I’d always just say ‘hi it’s Josie’ when ringing a mate up.

I think it’s nice to be unique and I’ll definitely try and replicate this when naming my own kids.

It’s the rude names you’ve got to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist I’ll definitely be avoiding those.

Another said the baby was already “doomed” while someone else dubbed the choice ”a hate crime”.

However, someone was struggling to see the problem with the name, which they said would be pronounced like ”Anna Lee”.

The person: “What’s wrong with Anna Lee?”

A Reddidor responded: “Anna Lee has the same problem. Anna Lee. Annalee. Anally.”
