Olympic viewers tell BBC to ‘stop it’ as they slam ‘horrific’ green screen showing Fred Sirieix and Co in Paris street

VIEWERS were left baffled by the BBC’s use of a green screen on the opening day of the Olympic Games.

Presenter Jeanette Kwakye was joined by JJ Chalmers and Fred Sirieix to kick off the coverage on Saturday morning.

The trio started from the BBC’s television studio Paris – with the Eiffel Tower visible through a window in the background.

However, they quickly changed location to a bizarre animated version of a city centre courtyard using a green screen.

Fans were left completely perplexed as a result, with one person taking to X to write: “We get it you’ve got a mad green screen. It’s very cool. But groundbreaking idea here, why don’t you just, you know, sit them in a square in Paris?”

Another commented: “Oh the BBC courtyard green screen is so sad. It must be so distracting trying to work in a purely green room.”

A third said: “All these TV channels and producers think green screen/augmented reality studios look amazing. As a viewer, I’ve always thought they look rubbish and cheap. Now I also think they look old fashioned as everyone is doing it.”

While a fourth wrote: “This green screen stuff is horrific. Stop it. You’ve got a studio in Paris looking at the Eiffel Tower ffs.”

TV presenter and author Richard Osman even had his say, commenting: “I’m finding it very disconcerting. What are they thinking here? Is it permanent?”

The men’s street skateboarding event was suspended just a few hours into the start of the Games on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions.
